From Las Americas airport (SDQ) to Punta Cana by bus takes about 4 and a half hours in total: a 25 to 35 minute Uber or taxi to the bus terminal in central Santo Domingo, the buffer the company asks for and roughly 3 hours on the bus to Bávaro, according to the operator. If you are leaving from the airport, tell us when you book and we will confirm where to board. A direct private transfer costs roughly 125 to 200 USD by our July 2026 estimate, not a quote.
The three ways to make the trip
There are three sensible ways to cover the 200 km between SDQ and the Punta Cana hotel zone. The bus is the cheapest, but you usually board in central Santo Domingo, because the airport lies east of the city. A direct private transfer runs from 125 to 200 USD approx. per vehicle and drops you at the hotel with no changes. The third is renting a car, which makes sense if you will move around during your stay. For a couple on a morning flight with no rush, the bus is the best value.
From the airport to the bus terminal
The airport is about 25 to 35 minutes from the centre by Uber or official taxi, depending on traffic on Avenida Las Americas. Two separate companies run this corridor, Expreso Bávaro and Expreso Punta Cana, each with its own stop in Santo Domingo, and the exact point and time come with your ticket. Order the car from inside the airport and compare the app price with what the taxi drivers at the door offer. If you leave the international terminal mid morning, expect some traffic entering the city.
The bus to Punta Cana: time, fare and payment
According to the operator, the trip takes roughly 3 hours for the 200 km. On your own, Expreso Bávaro does not sell online or in advance, according to its website: you buy at the station, where it asks you to arrive 1 hour early. We recommend withdrawing pesos at the airport. If your ticket is with the other company on the corridor, we give you its conditions along with it. We confirm the departure that fits your flight when you book, and the last one of the day is never a good plan straight off a flight.
Arriving in Bávaro and the last leg to your hotel
The coach does not go into the hotels. It ends at a stop in Bávaro. From there the Bávaro hotels are 15 to 20 minutes by Uber or hotel taxi. Cap Cana and Uvero Alto are further out and the taxi costs noticeably more, which is worth weighing before you choose the bus. Uber Select can drive into the hotel lobby, UberX usually leaves you at the resort gate. Have the hotel name written down, many resorts have similar names and the driver will ask.
When each option makes sense and how we help
If you land before noon and there are one or two of you, the bus costs far less than a transfer. If you are a family with luggage or you land in the afternoon, a private transfer keeps the connection from falling apart. Our assisted booking starts at 25 USD per person, with secure payment when you book and a full refund if we cannot get your ticket, and we reply by WhatsApp or email with the departure that fits your flight and the buffer we recommend. We are an independent intermediary: we plan the trip with you, the ticket is issued by the operator.
