Who is behind Guagualine

Guagualine is not a transport company and not the website of any operator. It is a small intermediary agency doing one concrete job: calling to check what time the guagua actually leaves, holding your seat with the operator and staying with you on WhatsApp until you arrive. This page explains who does that and with what method, so you can judge whether to trust it.

Who runs it

Behind the project is Joan, Spanish, who has spent years building travel sites about the Dominican Republic and knows the country from travelling it. This is not a fund or a startup with an office in Santo Domingo. It is an independent project that answers with a name attached, which is exactly why this page exists instead of a generic about us.

Where the idea came from

Looking for how to get from Punta Cana to Las Terrenas surfaced the whole problem. In the Dominican Republic no bus operator sells online. Real timetables are not published anywhere reliable, and what circulates on blogs and forums is usually out of date. A visitor is left with two extremes: the local guagua at around 8 dollars that is impossible to book from abroad, or the 150 dollar private transfer. Nothing sat in between, and that gap is Guagualine.

What we actually do

Three things. We verify the schedule by phoning the operator before confirming any request. We arrange the seat and the payment with that operator, who provides the service and appears by name on your voucher. And we support you on WhatsApp in Spanish, English and French before departure, during the trip and until you arrive. What we sell is the arranging and the support, not the transport.

Why the data is worth trusting

Every route page carries the date of its last verification, so you know whether the schedule was checked this week or two months ago. We always name the operator providing the service, so you can cross check it yourself. And we never sell the last departure of the day: if your bus fails, there has to be a later one to rebook you on. That rule costs us sales and it is precisely what makes the guarantee mean something.

Prices and what we do not control

Prices you see are estimates and always shown as from, in US dollars. The final price is confirmed before you pay. Timetables are set by the operators and can change without notice, which is why we call instead of copying tables. When something depends on third parties we say so rather than dressing it up.

Where we are right now

We are a young project in launch phase, with few routes covered and growing where there is real demand. Every request is answered by a person, not a bot, which means we sometimes take a few hours. We would rather say that than pretend to a size we do not have. If we cannot verify a route, we tell you and we do not sell it to you.

How to reach us

WhatsApp is the main channel, where the whole trip is handled and where we reply fastest. If you prefer email, write to us through the contact form on this site and we answer by email. We do not publish the address in plain text to avoid spam, but there is a person reading behind that form.
