Quick answer

Caribe Tours is the network with the most terminals among the companies we document, 58 on its official list: it links Santo Domingo with Santiago, Puerto Plata and Samana, among other cities, and has terminals in the Punta Cana area. Metro covers Santo Domingo, Santiago and Puerto Plata. Two separate companies run the Punta Cana to Santo Domingo corridor, Expreso Bávaro and Expreso Punta Cana.

Caribe Tours: the network that reaches most of the country

Caribe Tours has the widest coverage among the companies we document: its official list of terminals adds up to 58, including Santo Domingo, Santiago, Puerto Plata, Samana, Sosua, La Vega, Jarabacoa, Barahona and two in the Punta Cana area. It also links Puerto Plata with Santiago in an hour and a half. It sells at the terminal counter and on its website. It publishes its full timetable, which is the one we use on its routes. At the counter, do not assume card payment will work, so carry pesos.

Metro: the Cibao corridor

Metro Servicios Turisticos has terminals in Santo Domingo, Santiago and Puerto Plata, and publishes its timetables and fares on its website, with a different schedule on Sundays and public holidays. What Metro does not cover is Punta Cana or the Samana peninsula. If your plan is Santo Domingo to Santiago or Puerto Plata, it is worth comparing Metro with Caribe Tours on the same day, because the real difference is the time that suits you, not the road, which is the same.

Expreso Bávaro: the Punta Cana corridor

Expreso Bávaro links the Punta Cana area with the capital. It is not the same company as Expreso Punta Cana, which runs the same corridor with different stops. It leaves from the Bávaro area and reaches central Santo Domingo in roughly 3 hours, according to its website, for about 200 km. According to that same website, it does not sell online or in advance: you buy at the station, where it asks you to arrive 1 hour early. It does not publish a timetable. If you book with us, the company you travel with is the one shown on your ticket.

Which operator covers which route

Keep it simple. Punta Cana to Santo Domingo is run by Expreso Bávaro and Expreso Punta Cana, two separate companies. Santo Domingo to Santiago, Puerto Plata or Samana is Caribe Tours, with Metro as the alternative for Santiago and Puerto Plata. Santo Domingo to Las Terrenas is none of them: it is run by Asotrapusa, the Samana transport association, from a street stop in Santo Domingo. From Punta Cana to Las Terrenas or Puerto Plata there is no direct coach: you combine one of the two corridor buses to the capital and then Asotrapusa or Caribe Tours.

How we pick the bus and how we book it

Our rule is simple: the route first, then a departure that gets you there in daylight, and the operator last. We are an independent intermediary with no commercial agreement with Caribe Tours, Metro or Expreso Bávaro, so we tell you which one fits even when it is not the famous name. If you would rather not deal with the ticket counter, we offer assisted booking from 20 USD per person, with secure payment when you book and a full refund if we cannot get your ticket, and we reply on WhatsApp or email with the travel plan and the exact stop. We handle your ticket, and the transport contract is between you and the company that runs the trip.
