Two separate companies run the Punta Cana to Santo Domingo corridor, Expreso Bávaro and Expreso Punta Cana. The one that takes you is the one shown on your ticket. The trip is about 200 km and roughly 3 hours, according to the operator, from a stop in the Bávaro area to central Santo Domingo. The exact point and time come with your booking confirmation.
How long it takes and what it costs
The trip covers 200 km of highway and the operator speaks of roughly 3 hours. With Guagualine's assisted booking it costs from 25 USD per person, ticket included. Compare that with a private transfer, which on this corridor we estimate at 125 to 200 USD per vehicle (our own July 2026 estimate, not a quote): for one or two travellers the gap is huge, for a family of five with big suitcases the numbers get closer. On your own, Expreso Bávaro does not sell online or in advance, according to its website: you buy at the station, where it asks you to arrive 1 hour early. If you land with dollars or euros, we recommend withdrawing pesos from an ATM before heading to the stop.
Where it leaves from: a stop in Bávaro
The bus leaves from the company's station in Bávaro, by the main road. The exact point comes with your booking confirmation. Guagua is what people in the country call buses and minibuses. Arrive early: Expreso Bávaro asks on its website for you to be there an hour before departure. If your ticket is with the other company on the corridor, we tell you its buffer along with it. Bring some water and a light jacket, the air conditioning is usually strong.
Getting to the stop from the Bávaro hotels and the airport
From the Bávaro hotels you reach the stop by Uber or hotel taxi in about 15 to 20 minutes. One detail worth knowing: depending on the driver and the time of day, you may be asked to walk outside the resort grounds for pickup, so ask reception where pickups happen. From Punta Cana airport (PUJ) it is about 20 minutes by Uber or official taxi, and if you are leaving from the airport, tell us when you book and we will confirm where to board. If you fly in and want the bus the same day, add the ride, the company's buffer and the time for immigration and bags.
Timetables, cash and buffer time
Expreso Bávaro does not publish a timetable on its website, and this blog quotes no times for the corridor: we confirm the departure that suits you when you book. Our golden rule is never to count on the last departure of the day. If it is cancelled or full you have no plan B, so aim for a morning or early afternoon bus. If you travel on your own with Expreso Bávaro, remember what its website says: no online or advance sales, you buy at the station and it asks you to arrive 1 hour early.
Arriving in Santo Domingo and asking for help with the booking
The bus ends in central Santo Domingo, and the exact stop comes with your ticket. From the centre, the Colonial Zone is about 10 minutes by Uber or taxi. If you are continuing to Las Americas airport (SDQ), allow another 25 to 35 minutes depending on traffic. If you would rather not arrive blind, we offer an assisted booking from 25 USD per person, with secure payment when you book and a full refund if we cannot get your ticket, and we reply by WhatsApp or email with the departure that fits and the buffer time. We are an independent intermediary with no commercial agreement with the companies on the corridor, and the transport contract is always between you and the company shown on your ticket.
