Quick answer

You can reach Miches by bus from Punta Cana, about 80 km and around 1 h 45 by our estimate, or from Santo Domingo, about 3 h 45 according to a photo of the stop's timetable board sent by a local contact in September 2026. The bus ends in the town centre and does not go up Montaña Redonda or out to Playa Esmeralda: that last leg is up to you. We handle the bus to Miches with an assisted booking from 19 USD per person.

Miches and Montaña Redonda in five facts

1. Miches is on the northeast coast, on the so-called Emerald Coast (Costa Esmeralda), about 1.5 hours north of Punta Cana by road, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

5. We handle the bus to Miches from 19 USD per person. Guagualine does not handle the leg to the mountain or the beach.

Punta Cana to Miches: what we can confirm today

Guagualine handles the Punta Cana to Miches route with local minibuses (guaguas) from the east of the country, run by different carriers. In our data it is a direct route of about 80 km, and we estimate around 1 h 45 of travel. The Ministry of Tourism gives a similar figure by car: about 1.5 hours north of Punta Cana. To be clear about what is missing: we have not yet checked the Punta Cana departure point or the frequency of this route in person, so we do not publish times. That is why every booking comes with the company that runs it, the exact boarding point on Google Maps and your departure time. If we cannot get your seat, we refund you in full. The times shown on the Punta Cana to Miches route page are for reference, not a verified timetable.

Santo Domingo to Miches: the route with a timetable from the stop

There is more data from Santo Domingo. According to a photo of the timetable board at the stop, sent by a local contact on 7 September 2026, the trip takes around 3 h 45. It is about 165 km by our estimate. We only have the outbound timetable, not the return from Miches. The departure point is not a terminal with a waiting room but a street stop, and the exact point on Google Maps comes in your confirmation. We corrected its location on 8 September 2026 with that data, because we previously had it in the wrong place. In September we already handled a real return booking on this route. We only publish times when both directions are checked, and the exact time comes in your confirmation. More details on the Santo Domingo to Miches route page.

What Montaña Redonda is: viewpoint, lagoons and swings

Montaña Redonda is a natural 360 degree viewpoint between the sea and the lagoon, according to the official Ministry of Tourism page. From the top you see the Atlantic, green mountains and lagoons winding through the mangroves, and the page highlights its swings suspended in the sky and calls it the most shared attraction on Instagram in the Dominican Republic. A Diario Libre feature from July 2017 puts it at 1,000 feet above sea level, with views over Samana Bay, the Emerald Coast and the El Limon and Redonda lagoons, and describes a swing, a hammock and a broom for the "flying" photo. According to the same article, the site is kept up privately, without state funding. We do not give an entrance fee because we found no dated official source.

How to get up Montaña Redonda: the last leg is up to you

The bus does not go up Montaña Redonda. It ends in central Miches, and by our calculation the mountain is about 13 km east in a straight line, measured to the point on the Ministry of Tourism map. The climb itself is no stroll: Diario Libre describes a rocky, narrow track with several steep slopes, and Listin Diario reported in March 2017 that visitors rode up in a safari style truck along a stony track. These are 2017 reports, and we have not checked how you get up today or what it costs. Ask at your hotel or in town before you go. Guagualine does not sell or arrange this leg, the ride up or any mountain excursion, which you book separately. If you want to see the mountain and the beach without rushing, a night in Miches gives you room.

Playa Esmeralda and the beaches of Miches

Playa Esmeralda stretches along more than eleven kilometres of untouched coastline, with fine white sand and turquoise water, according to the Ministry of Tourism page. Several of the resorts the Ministry lists in Miches sit on this beach. By our calculation, the point on its map is about 8 km in a straight line from the bus stop, and we estimate about 15 minutes by taxi from the coastal hotels to the town centre. The Ministry also mentions Playa Arriba, the town beach, and El Morro. As with the mountain, the trip from the stop to the beach or your hotel is up to you, and we do not quote taxi fares because we have no dated source.
